Andras Fox - Your Life (APR WAX 002)

Erm, so it's been over a month since our last post. Seriously bad form on our part, but it wasn't us being our usual catatonic selves that caused the radio silence this time: a fried Macbook and a phone from the same company that took a nasty dive into my dishwater cut me off from the civilized world for a few weeks. So with all the equipment finally back in action again it's about time to cover some of the great records we've been buying or been sent over the past few weeks. Let's kick things off with a few words on Andras Fox's extraordinary 'Your Life' which Audio Parallax's label boss David Kenney so kindly stuck in the mail for us.

The title track came out digitally well over a year ago on APR alongside three other smooth slices of house not house/disco not disco. In the meantime, the label's branched out into the realm of expensive and fragile 12" vinyl (haha suckers, welcome to a world of hurt and empty savings accounts). And what better track to headline the second outing on vinyl than 'Your Life'? In case you missed it when it first came out, oul Foxy cooked up a pearl of a track. MPC beats, warm samples, hats that shuffle ever so gently, sloppy claps, lots of bottom end, driving keys and a hint of a woman that's about to whisper sweet nothings in your ear. It's like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket with a cup-a-coco with Victoria's secret's winter catalogue sitting on your lap waiting to be leisurely leafed through.

The EP comes with different tracks than the original digital release: the moody beatdownish 'Magpie Echoes') and 'Big Blue', a leftfield chunk of downtempo. While both tracks are solid, I actually prefer the jazzy, dreamy bits of the first (digital) version over these new tunes, but then again this release is all about the A side. Which is ridiculously good. So there you go.

Limited edition, only 300 copies done up on dark blue transparant vinyl. And there's a platypus on the centre art. So there, buy one before they're all gone and enjoy watching that silly animal spinning endless circles.

  2. Picking this up today, thanks!
Yes, well we know you are human and human stuff happens to all of us so no worries in delays on the postings.
Its just that for me, I would go into a record store and ask whats hot? Now that most brick and mortar stores are gone, I need to rely on the net to get my fix. Most days I don't have the patience to sit and listen to all the releases so I rely on sites like yours to keep me up to date. You've done a brilliant job so far on recommendations so yeah, after a few weeks, one wonders 'when are they gonna post up again?' It's not coming from an angry place but of curiosity since your sound has been validated through all of your followers. You've got something great cooking here!
Anyways, keep up the good work and I for one would love to see a year's best review.
    Thanks

  3. Hey thanks so much for those kind words! We always wonder if anyone still bothers to read these writeups, your comment really made me smile. We'll try to do at least one review a week next year and we'll definately put together a 'best of 2012' post in the next few weeks. Thanks again (and you too Martin! Rose Record review should be up before the end of the week too)
