Dj Raw Sugar & Roland the Realest - Love Sexy EP (Love Sexy Records)

Just as we were getting going into the meat of our set at About Blank in Berlin last weekend, we happened upon a couple who was strolling across the dancefloor, and the dude was carrying a couple of records. Being the curious cats we are, we called them over to the booth to ask what they were. Little did we realize at the time, it was none other than Dj Raw Sugar and his partner in crime Milly James, and one of the records was for us - his maiden voyage release on his new imprint, Love Sexy Records. What a gent! Turns out they've just recently moved back to Berlin after a long stint back in Australia, and to coincide with the move back to Europe, they've started up Love Sexy Records as an outlet for his productions. SO here we are with the first release on LSR - the 'Love Sexy Ep', featuring 2 killer original productions alongside a rework from antipodean bad bwoy, Inkswel.

Before getting into the record, we should probably point out that this first release came out a few months ago, but we're only really hearing about it now (bad form/for shame, I know). These guys have their second release in the pipes and is due out imminently. Anyways, for now we're on about their first hatchling. We're treated right off the bat to the Inkswel remix of 'I Just' on the A, which is a slightly more jittered approach to the original with off-pitch synths and distorted key sounds galore - keeping the vibe a bit more disjointed than the original. The OG up next is easily my pick, a super smooth ride through sloppy deephouse territory that moves along at a perfect slightly pitched down pace, and features a classic vintage vocal house sample that immediately brings me back. Female vocal is easily the key winner for me here, immediate rave mammaries.

On the flip we're treated to 'Wer Hat Der Hat', a fantastic collab by Mr. Sugar alongside a certain Roland the Realest who steps in to bring out that dirty bassline. A clav-heavy deep tune that weaves its way through a minefield of essential deep elements, but however bumps easily enough to shake the pants off a dancefloor.

Essential stuff then, and do be on the lookout for Love Sexy 002, featuring the talents of the mighty Megadon Betamax of Voyeurhythm fame (which as mentioned is out next week according to the innerwebs). Meanwhile if you haven't yet, grab a copy of 001 - it looks like Redeye has copies left here: BUY NOW.
